Ultimate Challenge: The Ultimate Aim.

Friday, 28th September 2007

Increasingly impressive new F3 team entering final meeting with just one chance left to claim elusive rostrum finish in maiden campaign...

Then in the races things turned around. We should have finished fourth and fifth in the first one; Mick suffered twice through being overtaken under a yellow flag coming up the hill, and on the last lap he was passed by Rodolfo Gonzalez who cut the chicane and got past Greg Mansell too, but afterwards Gonzalez was only put back one place behind Mansell when it should have been two. We were quite disappointed by the outcome; it was obviously frustrating for us that we didn’t get back the place we felt was rightfully ours. Fourth and eighth was still our best double result of the season though, so we have to be happy with that.

We then discovered another problem on Mick’s car which started at the Rockingham test before Croft. We thought we had sorted it but it re-appeared on the race weekend, which obviously wasn’t very good. We tried to get to the bottom of it at the circuit and Mick still managed to finish seventh in the first race, but in the second race it was just getting worse and it was decided best to withdraw him. Since then the components involved have been removed and the problem hopefully no longer exists.

Esteban’s experience was obviously a plus point, apart from the coming-together he had with Sebastien Hohenthal in race one. After the safety car period Esteban was closing in on Seb, and maybe Esteban was too close or Seb backed off where you wouldn’t normally do so, but the result was the same either way – they were both out. It was unfortunate because Esteban had been looking quite quick and was going well. Once again we could have had a good result but we didn’t get it, but that’s just the way it goes.
