Afterwards we had the big Ultimate party, which showed how generous Barry Walsh is and how he wants to do things in a different way. It was not only for our team but for everybody in the British F3 paddock, and a great way to end the year.
Looking back over the season, at the start it was extremely hard to get everything working together like it does now and going forwards, but the good thing is that everybody wanted to learn and make the team better. We had a completely new chassis in the Mygale but we managed to compete with the Dallaras and beat them, and that was all thanks to a big effort from the whole team. The level of professionalism at Ultimate is very high
Gradually we improved and learned about the car, and with the little experience we had we got good results and made the most of every opportunity to score points. By the end we were competitive and working very well together as a team. Everyone should be very proud of what they have achieved.
Best memories? At Spa we had very good pace and I was running fifth up with the front-runners – we were strong throughout the race. Then I had a brake problem and ended up finishing eighth, but we had proved we were very fast there. Also at Bucharest – a new circuit for everybody – we were extremely consistent and my team-mate Michael Devaney set the fastest lap in mixed conditions. In situations where there was a more level playing field like that, we showed we could be very competitive. I think there are many situations you could say have been highlights of the season.
For next year, I am just waiting to see what is happening. Barry has big projects for the future and is waiting to see what goes on. As to me, I’m working very hard on the training front and pushing flat-out every day. I don’t know what’s going to happen yet, but I would love to step up a grade and I would like to stay with Ultimate so we can grow together.
Hasta luego,
Esteban
