Having said that the pressure is completely off them as we always made a plan that Walter would go for the championship in 2009 when he’s better prepared but that doesn’t stop us going for it this year.
As yet I don’t know the identity of the third driver. Of the ones we’re talking to they’re all more than capable of stringing some results together to challenge for the title.
Q:
What do you feel are Hitech Racing’s strengths?
David Hayle:
If you take the top three or four teams in British F3 there’s very little between them. Each of them has people with vast experience and has extremely wise people on board and because of that I don’t suppose the difference between the cars is much more than a tenth or so.
I think a really important fact is that we, as Hitech Racing, still have the same core people working in the team, year after year and because of that we have never lost a driver to another team mid-season or at any part of the season, because we have a good team atmosphere and the drivers feel relaxed and can express themselves and so hopefully do a better job. And that’s probably as much to do with our success as the pure technical side of running a racing car.
Q:
Taking your drivers out the equation, who do you think will be the strongest challenge?
David Hayle:
Taking all our drivers out of the equation I think Mustonen will be strong this season, or at least he should be, he showed well last year and had a very good qualifying average, second best to Marko I think, obviously where you start on the grid is very important in Formula 3, it really depends how well he works with John Martin, but they could make a very strong pair.
Brendon Hartley should be quick, Carlin has four rookies which is never going to be easy but Hartley should be up there, he looked very good in Zolder last year.
