Rounds three and four of the Avon Tyres British Formula Three Championship take place at Donington Park this weekend with joint championship leaders James Courtney and Robbie Kerr both keen to break the deadlock at the top of the points table.
The momentum would seem to be with Courtney. The Aussie, resplendent in his Jaguar overalls as a reminder to the rest of his status as a
Formula One test driver, took second in both races at Brands Hatch, but would love to take his first win this year. He was quickest in testing for this weekend, and seems favourite to give reigning champions Carlin Motorsport their first win of the season.
Kerr won the opening race at Brands in his Alan Docking Racing Dallara, and the 2001 Scholarship Class champion is a clever and rapid racer. Strangely off the pace in testing for
Donington, he will be aiming to find his lost pace before Saturday’s qualifying – Formula Three emulating Formula One in that a good qualifying performance is essential.
Bruce Jouanny was second quickest in testing and the Frenchman gave the Promatecme team an encouraging win with a strong drive in round two at
Brands Hatch. Now in his second year of the series, Jouanny is showing the ability he promised when he came into the series and strong finishes at Donington could confirm him as a championship contender.
There has traditionally been a strong Brazilian presence in the series, and Jouanny’s team-mate Ernano Judice looks to be keeping that tradition going. At Brands Hatch he put in to practice all that he had learnt in the Scholarship Class last season, and took a third and a fourth in the two races. An aggressive racer, he is another who will be keen to impress at Donington and add to his points tally.
