There is no summer break for the drivers of the F3 Euro Series, one month after the round at Le Mans, the drivers will start the second half of the season at the famous German circuit of the Nürburgring this weekend.
Australian Ryan Briscoe remains the undisputed leader with four victories, but at the sixth meeting of the season, ten drivers can claim second place. Fabio Carbone is currently second, one point ahead of Christian Klien.
The young Austrian certainly is the driver in best form at the moment. After claiming his first victory during the most recent meeting at Le Mans, he went on to win the Formula 3 Masters at Zandvoort last weekend. Klien, who is also the leader in the rookie classification, could very well become a serious threat for Ryan Briscoe in the battle for the inaugural championship title of the F3 Euro Series.
The presence of four rookies among the first eight of the drivers' standings is excellent proof of the learning ability and the skills of the young drivers. Next to Christian Klien, Nico Rosberg (Finland),
Robert Kubica (Poland) and Alexandre Premat (France) have already won a race since the start of the new series.
During the test at the Nürburgring carried out by the teams of the Formula 3 Euro Series,
Nico Rosberg, Alexandre Premat and Christian Klien respectively set the second, third and fourth fastest times of the day. The fastest overall time, however, was established by Markus Winkelhock (Germany) with 1m 24.129s. The Mercedes-driver hasn’t given up his title hopes and remains a serious contender for the second half of the season.
With 18 drivers separated by only one second during this official test, the battle for the grid positions for this weekend’s two races is wide open. Together with the DTM, the Formula 3 Euro Series is likely to attract a huge crowd of German race fans again.
