Mücke-Motorsport's Christian Klien has been on a roll of late, he won the Marlboro Masters at the start of the month and two weeks ago took victory in race 2 at the Nurburgring in round six of the Formula 3 Euro Series. He now lies second in the championship, in his rookie year, with his home event in Austria at the A1-Ring, next up on September 6/7. Here he talks about his season so far...
Q:
Christian, at Le Mans and at the Nürburgring, you were on pole three times and scored two victories. After the Nürburgring round, you are runner-up in the championship standings. What is the secret of your success?
Christian Klien:
Things have been going well for me in the Formula 3 Euro Series from the very beginning. We are a great team and during the first races at Hockenheim and at the Adria Raceway, we already managed to score points. Pau was an exceptional race at a very special track and at the Norisring, we just didn’t have enough time. But since Le Mans, it has been running fine again.
Q:
What are your plans for the A1-Ring?
CK:
The A1-Ring is more or less my home circuit and in testing, I already was third and fourth. So two places on the podium must be possible, on top of the podium would be the best!
Q:
What do you think about the concept of the new Formula 3 Euro Series?
CK:
The new concept is great. For the drivers, it has become more difficult, as the competition is a lot closer. Here, we have 15 drivers capable of finishing on the podium and you are already way down after the slightest mistake.
Q:
Only 18 points down on current points leader Ryan Briscoe, you still have a fair chance of winning the title. Who are your main rivals?
CK:
There are still 88 points at stake in the championship and I want to score some of them. But of course, Ryan won’t make it easy for me, and Olivier Pla, Fabio Carbone,
Timo Glock,
Nico Rosberg and my team-mate Markus Winkelhock want to play a role as well. So it will remain pretty exciting.
Q:
What does your future look like?
