Briton James Rossiter is aiming to score his third British Formula 3 Championship win of the year at
Snetterton this weekend to further extend his lead at the head of the UK’s most important junior single-seater series. And, with the race postponed from
Silverstone earlier in the year added to the bill, he’s got three chances to do it.
The Fortec Motorsport driver leads the championship, which has produced countless
Formula 1 stars over the last 30 years, by 17 points from pre-season favourite Nelson Angelo Piquet, son of three times World Champion Nelson Piquet.
Third is Piquet’s Brazilian compatriot Danilo Dirani, but there are a host of drivers who could challenge for wins in the weekend’s three races. Local team P1 Motorsport (Wymondham) features two drivers who have already won this year in Adam Carroll and Ernesto Viso, while Huntingdon-based Lola are searching for their first victory with their Dome-powered machine, driven by Danny Watts.
In the Scholarship class, Royston driver Ryan Lewis has stolen a march on his rivals and leads by a whopping 48 points. He will be looking to cement his place at the top of the Scholarship table.
With speeds topping 130mph on Snetterton’s long straights, the Norfolk circuit’s round of the F3 championship is always one of the most spectacular to watch, and its flat-out nature always provides close racing.
To complement the F3 action, there will be a packed programme of support racing during the weekend, including the fire-spitting monsters of the British GT Championship. The mouth-watering array of cars competing in this hotly-contested series includes Ferraris, Porsches, TVRs and the exotic Moslers.
The GT series gets two mini-enduro races of 60 minutes each, but the rumble of the big sportscar engines plus the fraught action on track is plenty to keep spectators on the edge of their seats.
