Confirming the rumours that were rife in the British F3 paddock at the last round at Castle Combe, Venezuelan Ernesto Viso has left the series adding a ‘000’ to his F factor as he joins the Durango team in the
FIA F3000 swansong season.
The British F3 championship has seen rather a rapid decline in the number of competitors in the series over the last couple of rounds.
Between
Snetterton and last weekend’s Castle Combe event of the series Menu Motorsports Will Davison left the series through lack of funds, whilst Castle Combe race winner Danny Watts is racing on a race-by-race basis.
The Scholarship class meanwhile has seen Barton Mawer, Adam Langley-Kahn and Indian movie star Ajit Kumar depart. Now
Knockhill race winner Viso can be added to the list of departures and there are quite a few other drivers in a far from strong financial position.
This has left Adam Carroll as the sole driver at P1 Motorsport. Despite the fact that he stands at a fine second place in the highly competitive championship, his position is now precarious as it was Viso who brought the money to the team.
Carrol, on the other hand, does not have a big backer and last season found himself moving around the paddock despite continually impressing with his performances. He started 2003 with Sweeney Racing and the Lola-Dome that Danny Watts used to such good effect in the last round at Castle Combe.
With that deal disappearing, after the P1 Motorsport concern has taken over the Lola-Dome effort, Carroll then moved to Menu Motorsports for a number of races before running out of funds.
With Viso having left the P1 Motorsport team, could it be that Carroll is the next forced out of the series?
