P1 Motorsport's Adam Carroll lead from pole to chequered flag in an epic race at
Donington Park late on Saturday evening in the British Formula Three championship.
Carroll given a gift at the start as Aussie Will Power was off to a fantastic start only to become involved with Hitech Racing pairing Lucas di Grassi and Marko Asmer before the first corner.
This allowed Carroll to make a massive gap on the wet circuit from second placed at the end of the first lap, Danilo Dirani.
As the track dried so positions changed throughout the field on seemingly every lap. Carroll extended his lead fantastically for the early laps and it was left to Danny Watts in the Lola-Dome to give chase after working his way into second place.
Nelson Piquet was also working his way forward, albeit from further back than Watts, and the Brazilian was soon putting in fastest laps.
As the race neared the lap eighteen finish so Watts closed in on Carroll, but behind him fastest man on circuit Nelosn Piquet closed in Watts. With Carroll's lead narrowed to just over a second, Watts looked secure in second on the last lap, but only just, from Piquet until the Brazilian tried and succeeded with a very crude pass from way back to take second place.
Piquet's car was able to make it to the chequered flag, and so ensure the Brazilian the points lead, whilst Watts' Lola-Dome was stranded, unable to drive in a straight line to the finish.
