Jamie Green secured the title in the Formula 3 Euro Series surprisingly early given the sheer competitiveness within the series.

The 22-year-old performed consistently throughout the season and made few errors. He follows in the steps of Ryan Briscoe, who is currently under contract to Toyota as test driver in Formula 1 and who was the first overall winner of the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2003.

Green was no dark horse at the beginning of the season. He was vice-champion in the British Formula 3 championship in 2002. He also got a taste of the Formula 3 Euro Series through contesting the odd race or two last year. He took the place of the injured Bruno Spengler in the team ASM Formule 3 on the selective and tough street circuit at Pau.

At the end of the season he also drove another three races for the team Kolles. He already proved how fast he can be in 2003 by placing third in his first race in the Formula 3 Euro Series in Pau, southern France.

ASM head Frédéric Vasseur was impressed by the Pau feat of the Brit, whose hobbies are golf and music and who describes himself as quiet.

The Frenchman was adamant about having Green in his team in order to have a powerful trio with Alexandre Prémat and Eric Salignon.

Green started off in karting at the age of 14, and only left it in 2001 after winning the British Formula A. The following year he competed in the local Formula Renault. He left Formula Renault just one season later after coming second overall and winning the prestigious race in Macau, and joined the British Formula 3.

He also won the “McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award” in 2003.

“That’s when I realised I can make it in motorsports,“ he said.

And that’s exactly what the 22-year-old proved emphatically with his early title triumph in the Formula 3 Euro Series.
