After winning the Formula
BMW title in 2004, Tim Bridgman will make the step up to the British F3 championship this season with the Hitech Racing team.
Crash.net caught up with the youngster to look to the upcoming season...
Crash.net:
We spoke at
Donington Park before Christmas where you were testing a number of cars ahead of the 2005 F3 season. You said then you were still eying up your options before you decided where you wanted to commit yourself and I understand you now have a deal in place.
Tim Bridgman:
Yeah that’s right, we’ve come to a deal with Hitech Racing for 2005. As you say, we tested quite a few different cars at the end of last season and it was a case of weighing up who we thought was the best option for 2005.
Funnily enough I haven’t actually tested Hitch’s car. We made a deal with them based on the meeting we had last Tuesday at their base in
Silverstone, with myself and my management,
Mark Blundell. Basically it’s bit of a no-brainer really. Bruce Jenkins and David Hale have both got great experience with F3 and it’s great to be with them for this season.
Crash.net:
Was it the experience that the team has that attracted you to Hitech, considering that you’ve not tested their car whereas you have been testing for some of their rivals?
TB:
At the end of the day this is my first season in Formula Three and I want to make as big an impact in my first year as possible. To do that we need experienced people behind me and in David and Bruce we’ve certainly got that. Bruce is ex Paul Stewart racing, David is ex Fortec, so between the two of them they have tons of experience in this field and I think that’s really going to bring me on leaps and bounds this season.
Crash.net:
You said there about the importance of having experienced people behind you. Your manager is Mark Blundell, who is very experienced in the world of motorsport. Does it help to have someone like him, someone who has experience of making it to
F1, helping you with your career?
TB:
Yeah obviously. It’s great being part of 2MB Sports Management. Mark’s got a hell of a lot of experience, he’s been in the game a long time. I’m relatively inexperienced compared to some of the other guys who have done ten years of karting and a couple of seasons in Formula Renault and Formula Ford and then gone into Formula Three.
