Q&A: Tim Bridgman.

Monday, 24th January 2005

After winning the Formula BMW title in 2004, Tim Bridgman will make the step up to the British F3 championship this season with the Hitech Racing team.

Crash.net caught up with the youngster to look to the upcoming season...

This will be my third year in car racing, so as I said I need as much experience behind me as I can and with Mark I’ve got that. So I think things are looking fairly good for this season.

Crash.net:
After the success of 2004 you told us at Donington Park that you were quietly confident that whether you were in National class or Championship class you would be able to put on strong displays and show your talent in 2005.

Do you remain confident that you could be a title challenger?

TB:
Well, I mean it’s difficult to say at this early stage where you’re going to be. Even with the official test days coming up, even after them, it’s going to be difficult, because you don’t know who is running with ballast and full tanks and things like that, so you don’t really know where you stand until the first qualifying at Donington.

I don’t really want to say too much on where I think I’ll do. Obviously I am confident; I’ve got confidence in my own ability like all the other drivers have, so I am sure we are going to be strong. With Mark, and the team, I think we have got a fairly strong package for 2005 and it’s down to me to make the most of it.

Crash.net:
This deal is a one-year deal which obviously takes you to the end of the 2005 season. Where are you looking to be at this time next year, when we are looking forward to 2006? Where would you hope to be then?

TB:
Well, again, that’s really difficult to say. That would obviously depend on how my F3 season has been. I will have a much clearer picture half way through the season, but I just want to be in the most competitive series I can. If you have a good first season in F3, that can certainly put you on the right step to levels above, whether that’s GP2 or even look at the job that Jenson Button did in his first season and went straight into F1 with Williams. So anything is possible in Formula Three and I think that is the main attraction of it, it really is the launch pack to further things.
