Q&A: Tim Bridgman.

Monday, 24th January 2005

After winning the Formula BMW title in 2004, Tim Bridgman will make the step up to the British F3 championship this season with the Hitech Racing team.

Crash.net caught up with the youngster to look to the upcoming season...

GP2 is coming out obviously this season and that’s going to have some good drivers in it and some very good experienced teams, one of them is Hitech, so there is a variety of options but the best thing to do is concentrate on the F3 season and then we will see where we are towards the end of the year.

Crash.net:
Looking forward down the line; obviously for a young driver up and coming through the ranks we used to have Formula 3000 but now as you said we have the GP2 championship, we also have the new World Series that’s been brought in for 2005 and then of course there is Formula Superfund on top of that.

With this variety does it make it easier for a driver to make it to the top, considering there are maybe three tiers now under Formula One rather than just one championship which everyone is trying to get into?

TB:
I think certainly from a budget point of view it makes it maybe slightly easier because where you just have one championship, say Formula 3000, whatever the budget is for that, it’s something you pretty much have got to have to find if you want to get into Formula One, unless, as I said, you have a very good F3 season, or two seasons.

It all depends really. The main obstacles are always budget for any young driver and now there is a variety of options that gives you a variety of budgets to try and aim at. But I think it all depends on how your Formula Three season goes and then make a decision after that.

Crash.net:
Well Tim, thanks very much for your time and hopefully the 2005 season will be a good one to help you move on to bigger and better things.

TB:
Yeah I’m sure it will be, as I said I’ve got a great team behind me and I’m looking forward to it.
