Having dominated the Scholarship class in 2004, Ryan Lewis is all set for an assault on the Championship class of the British Formula Three championship this season.
All being well, Lewis will remain with the T-Sport team who carried him to success last year, as we found at the recent
Autosport International when Ryan took time out from signing autographs and competing in the Live Action Arena to have a chat...
Crash.net:
Ryan you’re trying to finalise your plans for 2005, but before we get onto that I wonder if we could just look back to last season. What was your highlight of the year?
Ryan Lewis:
Well apart from dominating the scholarship class and winning the championship, I think if I had to pick one particular thing from the season as a highlight then it would probably be qualifying third at
Oulton Park, that was good.
I didn’t actually know when I got out of the car, obviously I thought it was a good lap and I’d be on pole [in the class], but the fact I was third on the grid overall was a bit of surprise and it turned a few heads and it was definitely good for me profile wise – especially considering the pace of the other scholarship guys in relation to the rest of the grid and some of the other people who I’d put behind me who had won races that year. It did me a lot of favours and it was a big confidence boost - it was a big highlight for me.
Crash.net:
Did it make it especially satisfying that you were able to qualify quite well up the order on a number of occasions despite being in the scholarship car?
Ryan Lewis:
Yeah, I mean obviously some weekends there was a big difference, especially at the faster circuits where the championship car was clearly a bit quicker like on the
Silverstone GP circuit and at
Donington where it was quite difficult to stay on the back [of the championship runners]. It was only really when it was wet, or on the tighter circuits, that were able to keep up with some of the championship cars.
