Seven-up for impressive Conway.

Sunday, 13th August 2006

Race one winner Mike Conway held pole position for the second of Silverstone’s two Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 races at the weekend, and the margin by which he had acquired it – more than three tenths of a second clear of the rest of the field – suggested he was not going to relinquish his handsome points advantage without a stern fight.

“Bakkerud was with me all the way. My front tyres started to go and his lasted better which made things difficult, and I even had bits of rubber hitting my head, but I always concentrated on getting good exits from corners and kept him behind.”

“I’ve got a nice cushion in the championship now,” he added, “but there are still eight races to go and I have to concentrate on still taking every race as it comes rather than thinking about points.”

Having seen Jarvis close to within just six points of his second spot in the title chase, Senna was rather less pleased with the day’s result.

“It was a frustrating race,” he said. “It’s always hard to overtake here, but with some drivers it’s impossible. I was hoping for a better result for damage limitation purposes, but there are still four rounds and plenty of points left to go and I’m going to try to get as many of them as I can.”
