Champions from all three major Formula Three championships will go head-to-head on the streets of Macau next month, as the classic race runs for the 51st time on 21 November.
Living up to its usual quality, a 31-car field will again race for the
FIA's Intercontinental Cup, and, in addition to the intrigue provided by the clash of the titans, also contains the names of Jones, Rosberg and Piquet, as the sons of three consecutive
Formula One world champions attempt to do battle around the most notorious street circuit outside of Monaco. Piquet recently clinched the prestigious British F3 title, while Jones is proving to be something of a runaway leader in the equivalent Asian series. Rosberg, meanwhile, challenged for the Euroseries crown before having to give best to Britain's Jamie Green.
With Green also in the field for the end of the season event, the British and Euroseries champions will go head-to-head for the first time since Zandvoort's F3 Masters, with Japanese series 'top dog' Ronnie Quintarelli also in the mix. All three will be driving similar Dallara chassis, but each comes armed with a different engine, with Piquet favouring Mugen-Honda power, Quintarelli the Japanese-built Toyota and Green the Mercedes-Benz that proved dominant in Europe.
Piquet heads to Macau with the most momentum, having won both the final race and the title in the British finale at
Brands Hatch. The son of triple
F1 world champion Nelson, and racing for his own Piquet Sports team, the Brazilian is visiting Macau for the second time and will certainly carry the most famous name at the race. Success in a tough British championship that had no less than ten different race winners should have made him as prepared as could be for the prestigious event.
Green has had an easier run to the European title, making sure of the championship with two of the ten meetings remaining, as nobody else could muster the consistency to challenge his ASM-run entry.
