Australian motorsport however is about one thing, the V8s. They may be described as ‘dinosaurs,' even by the reigning V8 Supercar champion, but there's no denying the pull of the big pushrod powered V8s in their native land. Will's brother, Alex, has signed a contract for the 2005 season with team Castrol Perkins, and it was only natural that Will should find himself in a car at some point.
It was to be a testing time, in more ways than one, as Davison joined Team Dynamik and sampled the V8 Holden Commodore.
“I did some races with Team Dynamik which was fantastic to get some experience in the big V8s and that was a great experience,” explains Will, who had runs at both Sandown and Bathurst, although at both venues his time in the car was cut short.
Despite the short time in the car, Davison impressed enough to be offered a drive for 2005. “It certainly put me in good stead if that's where I decide to be for the next couple of years because they're a tricky car to get used to, and I've certainly started to get used to it and I'm enjoying it – it's a pretty strong series that we've got here in Australia,” he says.
From the V8s and back to Europe for a very special day in Davison's career. “To finish the year with a Minardi test was a seriously special day, a dream come true,” he says still beaming with the thought of the experience.
“Things went really well,” he explains. “We only had twenty-two laps but I really felt on top of the car in a short space of time and certainly did myself no harm and experienced something that not a lot of people get to do in Australian and it was absolutely awesome.”
