Comtec Racing has announced plans to make the step into the Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series – adding to its current campaigns in Formula Renault and the World Series by Renault.
Following the acquisition of P1 Motorsport, who carried Danilo Dirani to sixth in the standings and Adam Carroll to second a year earlier, Comtec will make the move into the series with an entry into the National Class – where P1 competed with much success prior to making the step up to the full championship class.
Martin Donnelly will take on the role of F3 team manager, with Team Lebanon A1GP runner Basil Shaaban the first driver confirmed with the team.
“These are new and challenging times within the world of Comtec Racing,” CEO Jonathan Lewis said. “Having Roly Vincini as our head of engineering, an opportunity arose for us to purchase his Formula Three team. Having within our team the people with the experience and know-how, this presents an excellent opportunity to make full use of their skills - hence the formation of Comtec F3.
“We will initially undertake a testing campaign with Basil with a view to competing in some National Class rounds later in the season.”
Shaaban himself is equally excited at the prospect of moving into the highly competitive F3 series.
“I am very excited about joining Comtec Racing in National Class F3,” he said. “With Roly Vincini and the combined experience within the team I stand to benefit significantly on my learning curve. I am confident that the Comtec package will provide me with the best opportunity to showcase my abilities against my competition.”
Donnelly will bring his past experience as both a driver and team owner into the programme, although he admitted he was well away of the challenges that lie ahead.
