Reigning Formula 3 Euroseries champion Paul di Resta has thanked Mercedes for everything they helped him achieve last year, and says he hopes to be able to repay them should he switch over to the DTM with the Stuttgart marque in 2007.

“It's up to Mercedes to decide the best path for me,” he explained. “They are great guys, and without them I wouldn't be where I am now. I hope I can work closely with them in the future, wherever that may be. They have done a lot for me and I hope to repay them.

“The DTM is a great series. The car is great to drive and it's very high-profile now – I think it's as close as anything to Formula One as far as publicity goes. It's a good stepping-stone. A lot of people have been through the DTM and hopefully I will go through as well. It would be great to go and do, and I think it's only going to improve me as a driver.

“I don't think it would do my career any harm at all. Mercedes have told me to trust them and that's what I am doing. I'm 100 per cent behind them.”
