Jonathan Kennard has secured his first podium finish with the Raikkonen Robertson Racing team after taking a third place finish in the second race for the British F3 International Series at
Donington Park.
Qualifying saw Kennard secure fourth on the grid for race one, and eighth for race two, with the 21-year-old in confident mood going into the first race.
After a good initial start, he tried to take third position but had to back out and as a result lost a place to Sebastien Hohenthal. Unable to find a way past the Swede, Kennard was forced to settle for fifth place at the flag.
With light rain falling at the start of the second race, Kennard made a good start to make up two places at Redgate on the opening lap, and eventually climbed into third place. From there, he did his best to take second from Niall Breen but was unable to pass the Carlin rookie and had to settle for third – a result that sees him maintain fourth in the standings.
“I was quicker than Niall,” he said. “But he was driving well, there were a lot of backmarkers causing problems, and we had to wind our way round them too. I had two or three strong goes up the inside at Redgate, but I actually got so close to him that I lost downforce, and he got the run to the next corner.”
