Frankie Cheng is refusing to give up on the National Class title of the British F3 International Series despite seeing rival Sergio Perez enjoy a perfect weekend at Silverstone.

While Perez picked up the maximum 42 points available, Cheng was forced to retire from the opening race and could only follow the Mexican home in race two to slip 37 points behind the points leader.

However, Cheng refused to be downbeat after the Silverstone weekend and said he was ready to take the fight to his rival next time out at Thruxton as the two way battle that has been running throughout the season heads towards its conclusion.

“In race one I got a good start to take the lead but we had some radio problems and I didn't know the Safety Car was coming in so I lost the lead to Perez and then I got a puncture so I was forced to retire,” the he told Crash.net. “In race two, I pushed hard and the car was good but I was behind Perez. It was a good weekend but we hope it can be better at Thruxton.

“I always try my best and the team is working hard to improve the car. You can see that T-Sport has a very good car and Sergio is doing a good job but the National Class is very competitive and we are doing our best. But the fight we are having is good for us both and will help us improve so we are better prepared for next year. It's a good championship and it is difficult, but I always look to the positive. There are six races left and over 100 points to go for, so I hope to win next time to close the gap.

“Performance are doing all they can to help me challenge T-Sport who have been the best team in recent years. At the moment it doesn't look easy to close the gap but we are confident and with some luck we can catch him up.”
