Asmer also took time to thank his Hitech team for the work that has gone in to securing the title, while he also paid tribute to the Japanese outfit Threebond who gave him a drive last season and also released him from some of his commitments during 2007 to aid his championship challenge.
It is our championship, he said. I was driving the car but Hitech put it together, so it is 50/50. I couldn't have won without them giving me that car and they couldn't win it without me driving, so it was everything together. I have a good relationship with them from the past and we trust each other. We had a good year in 2005 but didn't win it, but we came back together this year and were fast so we knew we could do it. In the end, I have to say big thanks to Hitech, they took me onboard again and here we are.
Also, very big thanks to Threebond as they are the ones who saved me last year. I have no budget at all and at the end of 2005 we were in a dilemma what to do. My dad had sold his house to keep on going at one point so it was a big struggle. They took me onboard for 2006 and from there on, it has come uphill and I hope it continues. I became stronger when I started winning as you know you can do it but for some reason it doesn't happen. When you start winning, your confidence rises higher and for next year, things aren't looking bad.
