Marcus Ericsson has completed a successful test session with the Raikkonen Robertson Racing team as part of his prize for winning the final Formula BMW UK Championship title.

The Swedish teenager became the first rookie to win the overall FBMW UK title after a hugely successful season that saw him take eleven pole positions and seven wins in 18 races and took to the track with Double R for his prize-winning Formula 3 test at Pembrey.

With his focus on trying to secure a drive in F3 next season, the 17-year-old was delighted with how the test had gone and admitted it had been easier to make the switch into an F3 car than he had expected.

"This test has given me valuable experience in a new car and it's been great to work with the guys at Double R," he said. "I thought it would be quite had making the transition from Formula BMW to Formula 3, but it's been a lot easier than I expected! I've been able to use quite similar driving styles and I've just been getting quicker as the day goes on."

Team manager Anthony 'Boyo' Hieatt said he was impressed by the performance of the F3 rookie, adding that he feel he has the potential to go far in his career.

"It was a pleasure working with Marcus," he said. "He made no mistakes and adapted well to the car, posting some competitive lap times. He is a superb young driver who looks destined to go far in his career."

With FBMW UK heading into a merger with the German series to create a Formula BMW Euroseries, Ericsson will go down in history as the final championship winner in the British series and general manager of sports marketing for BMW UK Peter Walker said he was proud of how well his final champion had performed both in his F3 test and in his season as a whole.

"We're delighted to be able to offer a Formula 3 test to our champion," he said. "We like to think we are able to help young drivers in their careers and giving them a leg-up into F3 is a significant and important investment as an intermediate step on their way to Formula 1.
