Romain Grosjean is the 2007 Formula 3 Euroseries Champion after cruising to a second place finish in the penultimate race of the season at the Hockenheimring, a result that gave him an unassailable lead in the standings.
Already heading into the final round of the season in a prime position over sole title rival Sebastien Buemi, Grosjean's eight point advantage meant he needed to just finish ahead of the Swiss driver in the first race of the weekend to guarantee himself the championship.
The fifth Euroseries champion, Grosjean follows in the footsteps of Ryan Briscoe, Jamie Green,
Lewis Hamilton and Paul di Resta as title winners, the latter three drivers having also claimed victory with ASM.
The race itself was won by Grosjean's team-mate Nico Hulkenberg, who got a better getaway than the pole sitting Frenchman to storm into the lead and quickly pull out a good lead. Grosjean meanwhile spent the early laps fending off the attentions of Yelmer Buurman.
However, Grosjean broke away and while it looked as though he was catching Hulkenberg in order to be allowed past, cementing the title in the best way possible, the German instead held firm to claim his fourth win of the season by just over a second. He has ensured third in the overall standings in the process too.
Indeed, Grosjean need not have pushed too hard in second place as Buemi was having a disappointing race, getting up to fourth early on before being overtaken by Kamui Kobayashi and dropping back from there to cross the line in fifth place, behind Buurman and Kobayashi.
Just behind, Signature-Plus will start 1-2-3 in the reverse grid for the second race as they rounded out the points positions, Edoardo Mortara leading Yann Clairay and Dani Clos. Mortara's sixth place and Franck Mailleux's 11th overall also means the Italian takes the lead in the Rookie Cup with only one race remaining.
