Romain Grosjean was thrilled to be crowned the 2007 Formula 3 Euroseries title winner one round in advance after claiming a second place finish at Hockenheim.
The fifth winner of the title, Grosjean needed to beat his sole rival Sebastien Buemi in the first of the weekend's two races at the Hockenheim season finale to guarantee victory, something he achieved easily when he finished second compared to the Swiss driver's fifth.
Giving him an unassailable 12 point lead in the standings heading into the last race of the season, Grosjean joins Ryan Briscoe, Jamie Green,
Lewis Hamilton and Paul di Resta on the winner's list.
His victory also signals the fourth in a row for ASM, although it is the first time the French team have scored a title with a driver hailing from the same nation.
“A great day, I am overjoyed. I had some highs and lows, but all in all, there were more highs. Six victories and maybe the seventh tomorrow, that is a great track record for the season. In the race, I didn't take any risks because I knew that second place would be enough to secure the title.”
