Nathan Caratti will race for the crack Opes Prime Team BRM outfit in this year's Kumho Tyres Australian F3 Championship after impressing in testing at Mallala Raceway recently.
The younger brother of 2005 Australian F3 champion Aaron, Caratti will drive one of the team's Opes Prime-backed Dallara F307s with Mercedes Benz power, and brings a wealth of experience to the operation despite being just 22 years of age.
Since 2004, he has raced in the Australian Formula Ford Championship, finishing seventh in the series in both 2005 and 2006 and scoring five podiums and eight top five finishes in his final year. He has also twice raced in the prestigious Formula Ford Festival in the UK and, in 2005, started four races in the Australian F3 Championship.
We are thrilled that Nathan will be joining us for what is shaping up to be the most competitive year for F3 and Opes Prime Team BRM yet, team manager Mark Rundle said, It's great to see some young Australian talent joining F3 and we are very excited to work with Nathan this season. His pace and feedback when he tested for us at Mallala last week was excellent, and there is no reason not to expect him to be a championship contender this season."
Last year, he stepped up to 'slicks-and-wings' in Formula Renault, basing himself in London and rounding off his debut season with several decent finishes before electing to return home for 2008 and compete for the new prize fund on offer in the national F3 series. With an $80,000 cash prize or the chance to negotiate a fully-funded Formula V6 Asia drive on offer, Caratti knows that he is in 'Prime' position to challenge for the title with BRM.
