"I wish it was as simple as everything thinks!" he said. "The different tyres have different characteristics. The Avon is a more forgiving tyre, you can carry more speed into the corners and get on the throttle earlier without the car feeling unstable, while the Kumho is more lively and you feel like there isn't as much grid as with the Avon. It also doesn't like it when you are turning and getting on the power at the same time, the tyre doesn't allow you to do that. I'll have to adapt my driving style somewhat to allow me to get the most from the tyres, which hopefully will take one test day."
Eager to make an impression as he seeks to move up the motorsport ladder, Bird said he was keen to be in the thick of the action once the Euroseries campaign kicks off at Hockenheim in April.
"Hopefully we will go to the first test and the sky will be the limit, but I don't really know to be honest," he said. "I'd like to think that I will be able to compete with the likes of Nico Hulkenberg and my team-mates Oshima, Tsukakoshi and Niall who I all feel will be very fast – as will James Jakes and the guys at ASM.
"It will be tough and I just hope I'm in the thick of it."
