Fresh from his success in the 2007 BARC Formula Renault championship and the Formula Renault Winter Series, Welsh racer Hywel Lloyd has announced plans to graduate to the British F3 International Series for the new season.
Jones' family run team – CF Team - has managed to secure two Dallara chassis previously used by Manor Motorsport in the F3 Euroseries and will use Neil Brown-prepared Honda engines for its assault on the National Class.
"The cars are very similar, the principles are obviously the same, but the big difference is that, whilst in Formula Renault everything was restricted, on these cars there is a lot you can do to try and increase the performance," Jones' father Harry said. "It makes it more interesting technically for the team. However we don't underestimate the challenge.
"Hwyel dug deep to the win the BARC Formula Renault championship and he showed he is ready to move up. Bearing in mind that this is big step up, we are hoping he can give a good account of himself."
Jones himself said he couldn't wait for the season to start after having a brief run in the car.
"It's brilliant, such a nice car to drive," he said. "Fortunately it seems to suit the same basic driving style, so I can carry on without making any dramatic changes, so that's a good start. We've just painted it in our own livery and although it's only a few weeks to the first official test I cant wait to get in and go!"
