British F3 rookie Andy Meyrick got his pre-season test programme off to the best possible start this week, at the first official test of the season at the Pembrey circuit in Wales.
The 22 year old student, who is competing in the national class with Carlin Motorsport, finished every session as the top national class runner and made good progress in the development of his car.
Meyrick, who has previous experience in Formula Ford and Formula Renault, was immediately on the pace from the first session of the test, to set the tenth fastest time overall and top the national class cars on the time sheets, before improving his time further in the afternoon session.
As conditions stayed sunny and bright for the second day of testing, Meyrick continued to improve and posted the ninth fastest time on Wednesday morning. Despite some mechanical issues in the afternoon, the Chester born racer made the most of his limited track time to set the fastest national class time in the final session.
"It was a really positive test, and encouraging that we were on the pace so quickly considering the limited time I've had in the car," he reflected. "The first day of testing went well and we improved on that by going quicker on Wednesday morning.
"Unfortunately we had a technical problem in the afternoon which put us out of action for the majority of the session. However, with just a few minutes remaining, we were able to go out and set the fastest national class time of the session, which was a real confidence boost considering our lack of track time.
"We've been consistently quick throughout the test and able to match some of the championship class cars as well. We've been able to learn a lot about various set-up options and collected some valuable data. As well as setting good times on new rubber, we were consistently quick on old tyres too, which is encouraging for the season ahead."
Meyrick's engineer Richard Owen meanwhile was impressed with how the rookie performed on his first official British F3 test.
