Having been the man to beat throughout pre-season testing, Andy Meyrick carried his form into qualifying for the opening rounds of the British F3 International Series to secure pole position for both races in the National Class.
The Carlin driver has quickly emerged as the man to beat in the class having set the pace throughout the off-season and went into his home event being viewed as the early favourite for honours.
Meyrick held off the challenge of Jay Bridger to take class pole in race one and then repeated the feat in race two, this time with a larger gap to second placed Salman Al Khalifa, and he admitted he was happy with how things had panned out.
“It's gone really well,” he told
Crash.net. “The pace we have shown in testing has gone through to qualifying which we are happy with. First qualifying, Jay was a bit closer than we hoped and I didn't hook a lap up to my liking really. In the second session, we improved the time a little bit but I got the lap I wanted so I'm happy.”
With a double pole under his belt, Meyrick added that his focus now was on making a winning start to the campaign, although he admitted that staying out of trouble could be key to success.
“From the position we are in, we have to look for two wins but we are in amongst it so need some clean corners at the start and see how it goes,” he said. “Everyone has to be more sensible than they would be mid-season as it's the first race of the year. You can't win the title in the first race so hopefully everyone will be cautious.”
