Oliver Turvey has acknowledged that whilst he may be entering the 2008 British F3 International Series as one of the title favourites following pre-season testing, for the first time in his career he feels under no pressure.

The 20-year-old has marked himself out as one of the young British stars to watch in the years to come, after claiming the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year accolade at the end of 2006, being awarded a fully-funded drive in British F3 this year with the crack Carlin Motorsport squad and now having been selected as one of the British Racing Drivers' Club's 14 new Superstars [see separate story – click here].

“It's fantastic,” Turvey enthused, speaking exclusively to Crash.net Radio. “The BRDC is such a prestigious club, and just to be a member of it is amazing; to be part of this new BRDC Superstars scheme is great.

“It's helping the top young drivers that are hopeful for the future, and for me the ambition is to reach Formula 1. I think the main benefit is the association with the BRDC; the depth of knowledge of its members and what you can learn from them is amazing.”

The announcement crowned an impressive few months for the Formula Renault Eurocup graduate, who has frequently struggled to find sufficient means to advance his promising single-seater career. Not only has support from the Racing Steps Foundation helped him to secure his British F3 berth for 2008, but the Cambridge University engineering undergraduate – juggling his racing commitments with studying for his finals this year – is already repaying that faith with interest, shining in pre-season testing ahead of the opening round of the new campaign at Oulton Park this weekend.
