Hitech pairing Walter Grubmuller and Max Chilton will chase a first win of the British F3 International Series season this weekend as the championship heads to the venue where David Hayle's squad secured the 2007 title.
A tenth win of the season at the North East venue saw Marko Asmer crowned as champion last year with one race meeting left to run, and Grubmuller and Chilton will both aim to repeat the Estonians form this time around after a solid start to the campaign at
Oulton Park last month.
There, Chilton secured a fine podium finish in the opening race while Grubmuller qualified inside the top three for both races and overcame a gearbox issue in race one to secure fifth in race two.
Both drivers have since continued to perform well in testing of the Dallara-Mercedes and Hayle said he was hopeful that the testing form can be carried into the race weekend.
"It will be very strange going back to
Croft as it's the place we won last year's title," he said. "Marko dominated there last season, claiming two pole positions, a win and very nearly a second victory until a rare mechanical problem.
"We started this year in a strong position and in virtually every test we've been on the pace with both Walter and Max. We've spent a lot of time on developing the new car and we feel we've learnt a lot ahead of the next round. In every session both Walter and Max have improved and I'm confident they will continue that form into the testing and qualifying this weekend."
