South Australian talent Nick Percat will reunite with Team BRM to contest round three of the 2008 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship at Oran Park this weekend.
Percat took part in the second half of the 2007 Australian Formula Ford Championship with Team BRM, scoring several podium finishes and a stunning victory at Symmons Plains raceway.
The 19-year old driver is this year contesting the Australian Formula Ford Championship with Team Sonic, but will reunite with his old team to make his Formula 3 debut at Oran Park driving a Dallara F307 – Mercedes Benz chassis.
Percat will drive the #4 Team BRM car raced with success and great speed in the opening two rounds of this years' championship by Kiwi Earl Bamber.
He will be a team-mate to current championship contender Nathan Caratti and National Class driver – and class points leader - Lee Farrell.
”The deal has come together so quickly that I don't think I've had time to look forward to it yet!” Percat admitted. ”But I think that it will be a different story on Friday when I'm sitting in the car ready to go out for first practice.
“It's going to be awesome to drive one of the new cars and experience something car with aero and mechanical grip. I'm in a new car with a great team so this should be a really good experience for me.”
Team BRM manager Mark Rundle said that resuming the relationship with a former driver would have benefits for Percat's maiden F3 outing.
”We've known Nick for a long time and worked with him successfully last season – we had a lot of great performances when working with him,” he said. ”The fact that we know how he operates as a driver, and he with us as a team, will make the jump into a wings and slicks Formula 3 car easier as we can go directly into the process of bringing him up to speed as quickly as possible.
”Nick did a very good job when he drove one of our F304 cars at Mallala late last year which will make the process even easier this weekend. We're looking forward to it.”
