Sergio Perez has moved into the lead of the British F3 International Series standings after taking T-Sport to its first win at
Croft.
The young Mexican was pipped to pole by Marcus Ericsson in the dying moments of the first qualifying session, but it didn't turn out to be a problem as he got a great start in race one and took a classic lights-to-flag victory, monitoring the gap back to Sebastian Hohenthal in second.
In the second qualifying session, Perez had a hard time finding a clear lap, managing just one timed lap before the first red flag, but it was enough for third on the grid. He maintained his position at the start of race two and got alongside Ericsson on the exit of Tower on lap one before being caught up in a multi-car accident that led to the race being stopped.
At the restart, Perez kept second place and shadowed the eventual winner, Brendon Hartley, all the way to the flag, taking another sizeable haul of championship points to hit the front in the standings.
In the National Class, Salman Al Khalifa was disappointed with fifth place in first qualifying as he was unable to get a clear lap amongst the mayhem. He got it all hooked up in the second session though and took second on the National Class grid for race two. In round one he suffered from a misfiring engine on the green flag lap so he had to start the race from the pit lane and could only salvage eighth place. He put everything right in round two though, taking second position behind Andy Meyrick.
Steven Guerrero did a brilliant job in the hectic first qualifying session, securing second in the National Class, his best qualifying position so far. In race one he drove well and finished third which earned him his first podium and showed that he is making stellar progress. Race two was difficult as he had qualified fifth due to traffic and had to be content with a fifth place finish.
