Having crashed out of the season opener at Hockenheim in dramatic fashion, Jon Lancaster will hope to get his F3 Euroseries campaign back on track this weekend as the series heads to Mugello for the second round of the year.
Having moved up from the Formula Renault Eurocup for the new season, Lancaster was unable to build on his solid pre-season testing form when he was involved in a spectacular accident in the opening race of the season after running into the rear of the car Jean-Karl Vernay.
It saw Lancaster launched into the air before his car flipped over onto its back, sliding along upside down before rolling back onto its wheels and coming to rest in the gravel trap.
Having been withdrawn from the remainder of the weekend after taking heavy blow to his leg, Lancaster will now aim to kickstart his campaign this weekend in Italy – albeit at a circuit he hasn't visited before.
“I don't know Mugello at all,” said Jon. “But I've been playing it on the Playstation and watching videos as there's not a lot else you can do really. It shouldn't be too bad though, we've got testing on Thursday and we'll have four hours track time. Hopefully it'll be dry and I can get some good running and then we'll see.
“I'm hoping for pretty much the same pace we had at Hockenheim, if not quicker. We've been top five in pretty much every test and I'll be pushing for top three and to be consistently up there to try and keep scoring points.
“It's a very close championship and this season looks like being the closest yet. Any one of around 12 drivers could probably win.”
Lancaster added that he was eager to get back behind the wheel just a matter of weeks after his high-speed German shunt, although he admits it was just ‘one of those things' that happen in motorsport.
