Spanish Formula 3 Championship debutant Will Bratt made a solid start to his first race weekend during official pre-event testing at Jarama by setting the fastest time ahead of the 2008 season opener.
Bratt lapped the Madrid circuit in 1m 29.206 seconds during the first of today's two 50-minute sessions to end the test over a tenth of a second quicker than British F3 runner Jaime Alguersuari.
Bratt's performance was all the more impressive considering the test was only his second run at the wheel of his brand new F308 Dallara chassis – the first having come a day earlier.
"It's obviously fantastic to be quickest, we're delighted with the pace we've shown and particularly because everyone was on a level playing field with regard to using new tyres," he said. "Potentially, we have the pace to do a good job in qualifying tomorrow and that's certainly the aim.
"We're still learning all of the time, I didn't have my first run in the new car until yesterday but I'm feeling very comfortable and confident we can start the season strongly. Tomorrow is where it will really count but I'm confident we'll be able to qualify well and put ourselves in a good position for the weekend's races."
