Heavy rain at Monza leads to cancellation of qualifying as British F3 heads overseas.

The first qualifying session of the weekend for the British F3 International Series at Monza had to cancelled after torrential rain hit the Italian Grand Prix venue.

Friday was due to see the teams hit the track for qualifying for the fifth round of the campaign, with qualifying for round six set to follow during Saturday.

Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari went into the session as the man to beat after leading the way during the two free practice sessions ahead of Carlin team-mate Brendon Hartley and Ultimate's Esteban Guerrieri.

However, with rain falling as qualifying arrived, the decision was taken to abandon qualifying after just six minutes, with the treacherous conditions meaning the circuit was unsafe for cars to circulate at racing speed.

As such, the qualifying session for round six on Saturday morning will now set the grid for both of the weekends races, with the drivers quickest times determining their position for race one and the second quickest times being used to decide the line-up for race two.
