Max Chilton scored his second pole position in a row in qualifying for round seven of the British Formula 3 International Series at Rockingham, the teenager prevailing in a wet session.
Interrupted twice by red flags, the top spot was shared between Chilton, Marcus Ericsson, and Jamie Alguersuari over the course of the 30-minutes, but it was the Hitech Racing driver who emerged top when it mattered with his final lap of the session.
Marking his second pole position in a row after managing the top spot at Monza, Chilton was four tenths of a second faster than Atte Mustonen, the Finn sneaking ahead of initial pace setter Alguersuari for a spot on the front row.
Sam Abay will start fourth in the second Carlin car, ahead of the leading Fortec entry of Sebastien Hohenthal. Elsewhere, Walter Grubmuller made it a good session for Hitech in sixth, edging out Ericsson, the Swede slipping down the order as the session progressed.
Star of the session, however, was arguably Andy Meyrick, who recorded another top ten starting position in his National Class Carlin machine, seven positions and 1.8secs faster than the second place car of Jay Bridger.
Carlin pair Oliver Turvey and Brendon Hartley rounded out the top ten.
