James Winslow faces an uphill battle to make next weekends' fifth round of the 2008 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship due to a lack of budget - though the Englishman says that he is committed to doing everything it takes to remain in the series.

Winslow began the season with Team BRM before switching to Astuti Motorsport after two rounds after losing a major sponsor.

In the space of a week, he went from not having a drive to winning, after taking out the second race at Oran Park in emphatic fashion thanks to a hastily-arranged race-by-race deal with the Astuti squad.

A difficult weekend followed at Mallala recently, though he remains within seven points of the championship lead heading into the second half of the season.

”I'm doing everything I can to be on the grid at Phillip Island, I'm desperate to race there and continue to challenge for the championship,” Winslow said from his Melbourne base.

”It would be a huge shame if I wasn't able to complete the season – we have come so far since it started. We led the series until a few weeks ago and we're still only eight points off the lead; and, we are racing at my favourite track, Phillip Island, next and I've won there before!”

Winslow said the depth of competition in this year's championship was all the motivation he needed to continue his quest to win the Australian title.

”Australian F3 is growing in strength and has come a long way in the last two years. This is the most competitive season yet since I came here to race with the sole purpose of winning this championship. I'd love to compete and try to win it, and I believe I can,” he added.

”As long as I continue, I really feel confident that I can win the championship. After losing my sponsor earlier this year I have worked so hard in what is seemingly the endless battle that is raising sponsorship. I don't want to drop out now when I'm in one of the best positions to win the title.
