Having qualified down the order following an accident in qualifying, Christian Vietoris completed a fine comeback in the second F3 Euroseries race to secure victory at the Norisring.
The Mucke Motorsport man had been forced to battle his way though the field in race one into the top ten and made the most of his improved position to secure a maiden win in the series.
The race started in dramatic fashion when Jon Lancaster and Edoardo Mortara spun, with the Italian being tipped into a spin that led to a pile-up behind and forced the race to be red-flagged. After a lengthy delay, the race restarted over 18 laps with Vietoris battling ahead of Rob Wickens early on and then surging past leader Erik Janis into a lead he wasn't to lose.
“Today, I had a good start, but then, the race was interrupted,” he said. “After the re-start, it took a while before my tyres were warm. After that, I was able to overtake and claim my first win. Today, I had luck, but the title is still a long way to go.”
Wickens took second place ahead of Mortaro, with Jean Karl Vernay, Renger van der Zande and Stefano Colleti completing the top six.
Nico Hulkenberg, winner of the opening race, failed to finish after coming together with Martin Plowman while the race itself was stopped early after an incident involving James Jakes, Daniel Campos-Hull and Richard Philippe.
With less than half the race distance completed, only half points were awarded.
