Brendon Hartley is pleased to have revived his British Formula 3 title hopes after scoring a tremendous double victory at
Thruxton.
Leading a marvellous weekend for the Carlin Motorsport team that culminated in them scoring an unprecedented 1-2-3 finish in the second of the weekend's races, Hartley's double win comes after an inconsistent season so far, one that that has been overshadowed by
Red Bull backed counterpart Jaime Alguersuari.
Nonetheless, maximum points have hauled Hartley up to fourth in the driver standings and just ten points behind series leader Sergio Perez, much to his delight.
"I'm really pleased to have taken two wins this weekend, it means I'm back in contention for the championship. I made a good start and managed to pull out a bit of a gap on Oliver (Turvey). The restart was quite difficult, it's so hard to keep people behind you here and stop them getting a slip stream past, so I was really pleased to keep the lead at the restart.
“The team have done a fantastic job to give us a great car this weekend. I think all the drivers have worked together very well over the last few weeks to develop a really good set up and it paid off today."
Indeed, Carlin look in good shape for this year's title as they currently occupy positions two, three and four in the standings, with Alguersuari leading Turvey and Hartley. Team principal Trevor Carlin is now hoping to overhaul Perez during the next round at
Brands Hatch.
"Obviously it's a dream weekend for the team. It's a great result for the technical team back at our factory in Chessington who have done a lot of hard work to help get the cars bang on the pace. I was very impressed with the way the top three drivers raced; they gave nothing away but raced fairly. Hopefully we can build on this at the next race at Brands Hatch."
