Formula Three coming-man Jonathan Legris has admitted that he is anticipating his British series debut as much as any other race he has contested, having been called up to the Litespeed squad for next weekend's
Brands Hatch encounter.
Although the drive will be in the National Class of his 'home' series, Spanish F3 threat Legris is clearly hoping that it can open doors for him as he continues to make his way up the racing ladder. He is currently third overall in the Copa de España competition, despite driving a car that is up to eight years older than his rivals', and recently took a brace of class wins - and second overall - at Spa-Francorchamps to put himself in contention, not only for the competition for older machinery, but also the overall title.
"We are delighted that Jonathan is ‘taking the seat' for us," Litespeed team manager Nino Judge commented, "He has more than proved his capability in the Spanish F3 Series and, coupled with his positive attitude, we feel very strongly that he is the best driver for us at Brands."
Legris follows in the footsteps of FFord champion Callum MacLeod, who debuted the SLC-based Litespeed chassis at Snetterton last month, and admits that he is looking forward to competing against the massed ranks of Dallaras and producing another giant-killing result.
"I am incredibly impressed by what Litespeed has brought to the track," he said, "To be offered this chance by a team with an engineering history such as theirs makes my debut in British F3 both an honour and a challenge.
"I am looking forward to this drive as much as any that I have already undertaken, and I look forward to a long and extremely successful relationship with Litespeed."
Since Litespeed's R1 was last seen on the track at
Snetterton, the engineers have been working hard in order to shave fractions off its lap times, and Judge is excited at having Legris on board for Brands.
