Brands Hatch witnessed the T-Sport team's best British F3 result yet as it took an overall victory in race two, along with a 1-2 in the National Class, as Sergio Perez kept hold of the outright championship lead.
All three T-Sport drivers - Perez, Steven Guerrero and Salman Al Khalifa - took solid points finishes in race one, but it was in race two that they would all shine. Perez, who led the standings by a single point entering the weekend, started from second on the grid but made a better getaway than poleman Marcus Ericsson to claim a lead he would not lose over the 22-lap distance.
Having trailed main rival Jaime Alguersuari in race one, victory - with the Spaniard only fourth - was just what the doctor ordered for Perez, who moved back on level terms with the Carlin man heading to next month's Spa encounter.
“It's fantastic for the whole team to be back and winning in both classes,” said a delighted Perez, for whom it was victory number four of 2008, “They've done a perfect job, so I'm very happy for them. We are only in the middle of the season though, so we need to keep pushing because this is our chance to win. It's going to be a battle - this championship is so strong we can't afford to make a single mistake.”
In the National Class, Guerrero made a great start from his first pole position of the year and led all the way to the flag, setting fastest lap along the way. The win, ahead of several International Class cars, made up for a poor start in race one, which saw the Colombian driver have to give best to both Jay Bridger and debutant Jonathan Legris.
“The team gave me a really good car,” Guerrero said, “I had a bad start in the first race and it is hard to pass here, so I made sure I got away well from pole position in race two and kept the lead all the way.”
Al Khalifa, after a couple of difficult events, also put himself back in the hunt with two good finishes at
Brands Hatch, including the second place in race two which completed the set for T-Sport.
