Promoting Sato and Ericsson up to third and fourth, after the Japanese driver slipped through on lap seven, the Swede wasted little time in regaining the position as a slight dry line began to appear. Indeed, it was a welcome addition of grip that was seeing Josef Kral, who struggled in the early laps, to start improving his position, harrying Surtees for fifth having dropped Daniel McKenzie, now in seventh.
With plenty more confidence in the improving conditions, Ericsson was on the move and quickly lowered the gap between himself and Fortec team-mate Arundel ahead, the two championship contenders nose-to-tail as they entered the final few laps.
Having hustled Arundel for several laps, the inevitable eventually occurred on lap 14 when he found a way past through the Craner Curves and up to an important second place finish.
He was unable to do anything about Legris though, the youngster scoring Motaworld Racing's first win in two years in the process. Ericsson and Arundel followed on the podium, the duo no doubt happy to finish ahead of Double R's Kral who crossed the line fifth behind Sato.
Surtees finished sixth, with McKenzie holding off a determined Valle Makela for eighth position. A bad start from Adrian Quaife-Hobbs saw him finish ninth having started fifth, while Carlos Huertas snared a spot inside the top ten after a lengthy but ultimately successful battle with Oliver Webb.
