Henry Surtees returned the legendary name to the top of the results sheet in the second Formula
BMW UK race of the weekend, a day that signalled a pair of new winners in treacherous circumstances.
Another tricky race for the drivers after the heavens opened once again mid-way through the race, Surtees benefited from a number of eventful moments ahead to capitalise and secure both his and Carlin Motorsport's long-awaited first win of the season.
With the circuit greasy from a day of persistent rain and debris from other races, another potential learning curve greeted the drivers, but save for an incident coming down to the first corner between Carlos Huertas and Oliver Webb, all drivers managed to navigate the first lap.
Marcus Ericsson had gotten away best from his pole position, slotting ahead of Loctite duo Sam Abay and Jordan
Williams, but after out-braking himself at the chicane as he attempted to keep the duo behind him, the Swede slid off and tumbled down the order, finishing the first lap just inside the top ten.
Abay thus inherited the lead with team-mate Williams latched onto his gearbox. However, Loctite's race was quickly to take a turn for the worse when Williams was given a drive-through penalty for jumping the start. However, with the penalty unbeknown to him, Williams made a move for the lead past Abay at Redgrave, the Australian being squeezed out onto the wet grass and forcing him down to fourth.
Williams had little chance to enjoy leading his first-ever Formula BMW race when he peeled into the pit lane, allowing Henry Arundel to briefly hit the front before he himself was overtaken by race one winner Jonathan Legris at the end of the home straight.
Further back, Surtees was making steady progress from seventh on the grid, passing Kimiya Sato for third place, the Japanese driver going on to lose another position when he was passed by Josef Kral, another driver on something of a charge after a difficult start.
