It was Surtees though that was now the man on the move as the rain began to fall, making the slick-shod
BMW machines look particularly twitchy as the water began have an effect on their performance. The Carlin driver passed Arundel for second on lap eight and quickly caught Legris to pass the Motaworld driver just two laps later and move into the lead.
Legris though would throw away a potential podium when he slid off at the Old Hairpin, promoting Arundel up to second and Kral up to third. Kral too though was revelling as the rain fell, passing Arundel for second just in time before the red flag was shown six laps from the finish as the conditions worsened.
It left a delighted Surtees as the winner though for the first time this year, with Kral following him in second place. Arundel rounded out the podium, well ahead of Sato, who had spent the final laps valiantly holding off an increasing group of cars, including the recovering Ericsson, Valle Makela and Abay, who had lost more ground with a spin on lap three.
Daniel McKenzie took advantage of the count-back system to claim eighth after being passed by a flying
Williams, the Loctite driver nonetheless claiming a strong ninth place despite his penalty, while a disappointed Legris rounded out the top ten.
