Away from the leading battle, Henry Surtees crossed the line third after passing Valle Makela on the second lap and, save for a moment mid-way through the race that saw him bouncing across the grass, holding on to the position all the way to the chequered flag.
Although he managed to close back to Surtees thanks to his off, Makela was never realistically in a position to snatch the podium position off him again. The Finn's cause was not helped by intense pressure from Henry Arundel, although even he found himself concentrating on his mirrors thanks to a concerted late effort by Jordan
Williams. Despite a few feigned attempts at snatching the places off one another, Makela, Arundel and Williams finished in tandem fourth, fifth and sixth.
Some way back, Oliver Webb scored a solid seventh place finish, ahead of Sam Abay, who managed to recover from lowly 14th on the grid to prevail in a long battle with Kimiya Sato, the Nexa driver scoring ninth.
Carlos Huertas meanwhile rounded out the top ten having greatly benefited from a collision between Daniel McKenzie, Adrian Quaife-Hobbs and Jonathan Legris at the start of the second lap, McKenzie diving down the inside of his rivals at Riches but getting tangled with Quaife-Hobbs, who in turn collided with Legris.
Although Quaife-Hobbs recovered, albeit heavily delayed, McKenzie retired immediately, while
Donington winner Legris continued to the finish line, minus his front wing.
