Rupert Svendsen-Cook will compete in the maiden Formula
BMW Europe Championship in 2008 after concluding a deal to join Raikkonen Robertson Racing in 2008.
The 17-year-old makes the switch to the all-new European Championship, which has been formed out the merger between the UK and German series', after a season racing with Team Loctite in Formula BMW UK.
Although his first season in car racing proved a difficult one after entering the series with barely any testing, Svendsen-Cook nonetheless proved quick on the most competitive grid the championship has ever seen.
It was duly noted by Double R Racing team principal Anthony ‘Boyo' Hieatt, who gave the Ipswich youngster a test following the end of the season.
After going on to prove impressively quick with the team that took Josef Kral to six wins and second in the championship, Svendsen-Cook has now confirmed a deal to race in the European Championship alongside fellow graduate Carlos Huertas and a third driver yet to be confirmed.
“I am really happy with this deal. I think they are a fantastic team to be with and, in my opinion, they will be the team to beat in 2008. I already get on really well with the people in the team, so I am very pleased to be here.
“It is going to be great to be supporting most of the
Formula 1 grands prix in 2008. All the hype and atmosphere around the weekends will be a fantastic opportunity to experience too. I really can't wait.”
Hieatt was also pleased to be welcoming Svendsen-Cook into the team, which also proved competitive in November's Formula BMW World Final at Valencia.
