Although there is no room at the inn for teams looking to witness the birth of the FBMW Euroseries in 2008, that has not prevented other GP2 operations from considering the category as a feeder to their higher ranks.

While Racing Engineering, FMSI and reigning GP2 champions iSport have all found a place in the amalgamation of British and German national series, French outfit DAMS has confirmed that it will be a part of the renamed Formula BMW Pacific competition next season.

Asia's premier entry-level series has been rechristened in recognition of its increasing popularity, and continues to experience extraordinary growth as motorsport in general continues to expand in the region, with the addition of Singapore bringing the number of F1 races in the area to six for 2008.

With increasing interest from Australia – nine of the 25 Formula BMW scholarship candidates for next season hailed from that country – and a field made up of diverse nationalities, the new name is a logical step in the development of the series. The series is also receiving unprecedented levels of interest from Japan, and the 2008 calendar will include a stop there, but the most significant news amid enormous driver interest is confirmation that GP2 Team DAMS will enter two cars next season.

The calendar will once again include support races at rounds of the F1 world championship, as well as visits to Asia's best race tracks.
