Carlin Motorsport was first formed in 1996 by Trevor Carlin and Martin Stone to run a pit stop challenge for the WilliamsF1 team. In 1997, Carlin turned to racing and has since become one of the most successful teams in the British Formula 3 Championship. The team won the title in 2001 and dominated the series in 2003 when its drivers finished first, second, fourth and sixth in the championship. Several of its drivers have gone on to F1 including Takumo Sato and Anthony Davidson. Carlin raced in the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Formula BMW UK Championships, taking the team trophy in 2004.
